I remember you telling me that quote before, and I love it. I feel like i'm torn between the harsh standards enforced by my father, and the idealism of pursuing what I love from my mother. Before I switched from voice performance to madison, I was content living a simple life, doing what i loved every day, but I think me as a person has always sought more, always wanting to be something great. I believe in socialization (i'm always interested to meet people who don't), so I know that my experiences growing up has shaped me into who i am today. i don't really see it as being ambitious, i just like to do lots of different things, and i enjoy everything i do, but in the back of my mind I know it will help me in the future to eventually reach my personal pinnacle. which I feel like holden would appreciate. Looking past the whole "he yearns to be a child again" analysis, I think he has a really interesting take on the world. People do things in such a calculated and normalized way. HAh, i was doing a practice gre and one of the passages was about the stages of cognitive learning, and most people are stuck in the "dualistic" stage where they see the world very black and white, there is nothing but right and wrong, the next is "relative" which I know you know about. but they act in a very predictable way, they can only see things, and do things in one of two ways, which is frustrating, that's why i appreciate people who are curious, people who challenge ways of being.

i don't know if i answered your question...kalyah alaina f.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02930178316069398846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6391661875386529380.post-30966288823866707402010-05-27T20:47:38.596-04:002010-05-27T20:47:38.596-04:00Have you ever read Franny & Zooey? The book carries on similar themes as Catcher like with the whole "phony-ness" of some people, but it builds on the brother-sister dynamic which I felt wasn't as touched on between Holden and Phoebe. One of my favorite quotes of the book was Franny saying "I'm sick of not having the courage to be an absolute nobody" which is an interesting thing to say at 20. I feel like there's so much pressure put on us to be successful and rich in this country that the merits of living a simpler, more ordinary life is overlooked? What do you think? I know you're very ambitious... do you think you'll be burned when you get out into the real world? It's interesting to note the ages of Salinger's character in relation to their worldviews!melonontwotendrilshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02401910187533233711noreply@blogger.com
